Biografie

Die Pro Cantu Jeugkoor is in die noordelike voorstede van Kaapstad gevestig, maar die koorlede kom van regoor die Kapse skiereiland.

Pro Cantu is trots om die geleentheid aan jong Suid-Afrikaners te bied om in 'n koor van die hoogste internasionales standaarde te sing, en om ook aan die gehoor 'n roerende musiekale ervaring te bied. Kooroefening is twee maal per week en bied aan jong mense van alle bevolkingsgroepe die geleentheid om saam te verkeer, vriedskappe te smee, en besonderse musiek te maak.

Sedert die aanvang in 1797, het Pro Cantu homself bewys beide in Suid-Afrika asook op die Internasionale verhoog. Die mees onlangese prestasie was die verowering van 'n goue medalje en 'n tweede plek in die Gemengde Jeugkoor kategorie van die 4e Wêreld Koor Spele (voorheen bekend as die Koor Olympiade) in Xiamen, Sjina in Junie 2006. Hulle het ook 'n baie suksesvolle toer onderneem in Maleisiê alvorens hulle aan die kompetisie deelgeneem het.

Pro Cantu is uitgenooi om aan die opvoering van “The Armed Man – A Mass for Peace” deur die komponis Karl Jenkins, deel te neem in Carnegie Hall, New York in Januarie 2008. As gevolg van vrygewige skenkings, word ons verteenwoordig op een van die bekendste verhoë ter wêreld.

Pro Cantu is gekies om deel te neem aand die 5w Wêreld Koor Spele in Graz, Oostenryk in Julie 2008. Dis die grootste koor kompetisie ter wêreld en die mees prestisuse vir amateur kore. Ons beplan tans ons trip na Europa aangesien ons ook uitgenooi is om deel te neem aan woekersessies in Londen en Salisbury. 'n Etens-uur konsert in St Paul’s Katedraal in London is op die skedule vir 8 Julie 2008!

Pro Cantu

Biography

The Pro Cantu Youth Choir is based in the northern suburbs of Cape Town, but draws its members from all over the Cape Peninsula.

Pro Cantu is proud to provide an opportunity for young South Africans to sing in a choir of the highest international standards whilst delivering a moving musical experience to its audiences. Choir rehearsals (twice a week) provide an opportunity for young people from all population groups to meet, form friendships and make incredible music.

Since its start in 1997, Pro Cantu has proven itself both in South Africa and on the international stage. Most recently the choir won a gold medal and achieved a second place in the Mixed Youth Choir category of the 4th World Choir Games (formerly known as the Choir Olympics) in Xiamen, China in June 2006. They also undertook a very successful concert tour in Malaysia before taking part in the competition.

Pro Cantu has been invited to take part in a performance of “The Armed Man – A Mass for Peace” by composer Karl Jenkins in Carnegie Hall, New York in January 2008. As a result of generous donations, we will be represented on one of the most famous stages in the world next year January!

Pro Cantu has also been selected to take part in the 5th World Choir Games in Graz, Austria in July 2008. This is the largest choir competition in the world and also one of the most prestigious for amateur choirs. We are currently planning our trip to Europe as we have also been invited to perform and take part in workshops in London and Salisbury. A lunch hour concert in St Paul’s Cathedral in London has already been scheduled for 8 July 2008!
