Afrikaans has a double negation: NIE ... NIE. If the two NIE's would be back-to-back, the last NIE falls away.

The Rule: The first NIE comes after the first verb and the second NIE is at the end of the sentence.

Ek is. > Ek is nie.
Ek is bly > Ek is nie bly nie.

Ek was daar. > Ek was nie daar nie.
Ek was daar gewees. > Ek was nie daar gewees nie.

Die president sal daar wees. > Die president sal nie daar wees nie.
