Negation with HÊ

As you know, Afrikaans has a double negation: NIE ... NIE. If the two NIE's would be back-to-back, the last NIE falls away.

The Rule: The first NIE comes after the first verb and the second NIE is at the end of the sentence.

Hede:        Ek het.                       > Ek het nie.
Hede:        Ek het boeke.            > Ek het nie boeke nie.

Verlede:    Ek het boeke gehad. > Ek het nie boeke gehad nie.

Toekoms: Ek sal boeke hê.        > Ek sal nie boeke hê nie.
