B4 — Reflexive Verbs

This list differs from language to language, but the concept is the same. It is an action that you cannot do to others, you do it in and for yourself. In Afrikaans, verslaap means to oversleep. You are the one who did it to yourself. You cannot do it to anybody else. Reflexive verbs come from a small list, and they could be other verb types too. Verslaap for example is also a prefixed verb. With reflexive verbs you refer back to the subject, often adding the word SELF in the sentence.</p>

For example:

Ek het my verslaap. OR Ek het myself verslaap.
Sy het haar verslaap. OR Sy het haarself verslaap.
