Tenses Introduction
Afrikaans has present, past, and future. To make these tenses, a helping verb is added to make a present tense sentence past tense (het and ge-) or future tense (sal or gaan). Let's play with English to illustrate the point with Afrikaans rules.
Present: Ian publishes the book in Europe.
Past: Ian het the book in Europe gepublish.
Future: Ian sal the book in Europe publish. or Ian gaan the book in Europe publish.
Any other tenses? Yes, but it is not so important as in other languages. The concept of a "perfect tense", meaning it is completed is accomplished in Afrikaans by adding the word 'already' into the sentence. We can indicate the conditional tense too, but it is not a big emphasis and simple to learn later.
