Biografie

Matthys van Tonder het sy eerste lewenslig aanskou in Ficksburg, in die bekende kersiegordel, op 26 November 1982. In 1984 verhuis die van Tonder-gesin na Namibië en dit is waar hy sy eerste klavierles neem. "My eerste herinneringe is van Tsumeb waar ek leer loop en praat het, en in 1991 het ons verhuis terug na Suid-Afrika".

As tiener vlieg hy ligte vliegtuie, en verteenwoordig Suid-Afrika internasionaal in die sport skerm by die Junior Olimpiese Spele in Moskou en die Wêreld Kampioenskappe in Turkye.

Geïnspireer deur Koos du Plessis en kunstenaars, soos Lize Beekman, begin Matthys self skryf en komponeer. "Ek vind dat ek meestal oor verhoudings skryf... nie net die verhouding tussen mense nie, maar ook die verhouding tussen jou en die Skepper.". Sy passie vir lirieke en musiek lei hom tot optredes in klubs en pub's, sodat Matthys vandag `n ontluikende kunstenaar in eie reg is. Mathys Roets sluit by sy "Tien jaar later" vertoning een van Matthys se komposisies in "Al wat ek vra" en so ontvang hy sy "vuurdoop" as liedjie skrywer. "Dit was die eerste keer dat ek konkrete bewys gekry het dat ek `n kans het om dit in die bedryf te haal, na dit was die koeël deur die kerk..."

Hy tree op by Aardklop in 2005, 2006 , 2007 en 2008. In 2006, 2007 en 2008 tree hy by Inniebos in Nelspruit op en by die KKNK in 2009. Matthys se debuut-album, "Groetnis vir Jasmyn", is vroeër in 2007 vrygestel en die ontvangs by die verskillende feeste was uitstekend! Matthys se jaarprogram het daarna al hoe vinniger opgevul "Die Jasmyn waarvoor daar groete gestuur word, is die dames koshuis in Pretoria, waar ek iemand geken het".

In 2007 tree Matthys by die Kierieklapperfees in Potgietersrus op, die goeie reaksie wat hy verkry laat die organiseerders van die Biltongfees notisie neem. Hy tree op as gaskunstenaar en seremoniemeester by die Biltongfees en doen selfs die voor vertonings vir Watershed en Pieter Smith.

As liedjie skrywer begin Matthys ook aandag trek. Die vervaardigers van verskillende Kyknet programme nader hom vir tema musiek. Dit het tot gevolg dat ander maatskappye hom raak sien en in 2008 skryf hy saam met `n musiek legende Kreesan die tema lied vir die Jacaranda 94.2 versamel album "Sit dit aan".

In 2007 begin RSG van Matthys se musiek op hulle speellys plaas , ander radio stasies volg gou op hulle hakke. Radio Laeveld , Overvaal stereo , VCR , Jacaranda, Radio Rippel , Vally FM en Kudu FM (Namibië) en baie ander het vandag Matthys op hul speel lyste.

Een van Matthys se Komposisies "Reën" word in 2007 gekeur vir die World song contest en Matthys bereik die semi-finaal met die komposisie.

Einde September 2009 begin verskei platemaatskappye ook van Matthys as liedjieskrywer kennis neem. Die sanger Wynand Strydom neem een van Matthys se liedjies "Boer soek - vrou" wat Matthys vir die Kyknet TV reeks geskryf het op.

Matthys se loopbaan as akteur begin einde 2008 wanneer hy vir die eerste keer in ʼn toneel stuk "Uit die skadu" as akteur op die verhoog te sien is. - Reeks oudisies volg en in November 2009 vertolk Matthys die manlike hoofrol in - advertensie vir die produk "Shweet", - plaasvervanger vir suiker.

Matthys is woonagtig in Gauteng, Suid-Afrika.

Biography

Matthys van Tonder was born in Ficksburg, in the cherry belt of the Free State, on the 26 of November 1982. In 1984 the van Tonder family moved to Namibia and that is where he gets his first piano lesson.

As a teenager in Krugersdorp South Africa he flew light aircraft, and represented South Africa internationally in the sport of fencing at the junior Olympic games in Moscow in 1998 and the junior world championships for fencing in Turkey in 2002.

Inspired by Koos du Plessis and younger artist like Lize Beekman, Matthys starts to write and compose his own songs. His newly found passion leads to gigs in pub's, clubs and other functions, and made him a artist in his own right. Mathys Roets the well known Afrikaans singer includes the song "Al wat ek vra" in his repertoire for his show called "Tien jaar later" which is a song written by Matthys.

Matthys van Tonder performs at Aardklop arts festival in 2005, 2006 , 2007 and 2008. In 2006, 2007 and 2008 he performs at the arts festival Inniebos in Nelspruit and at the KKNK in 2009. Matthys released his debut album, "Groetnis vir Jasmyn", early in 2007 and the reaction from audiences was excellent!

In 2007 Matthys performs at the Kierieklapperfees in Potgietersrus, the good reception he gets bring him to the attention of the Biltongfees festival organizers. He performs later that year at the Biltongfees as artist and master of ceremonies for the Miss Biltongfees and does the pre shows for  Watershed  and Pieter Smith.

As songwriter Matthys also starts getting attention. The creators of different Kyknet programs start contacting him for theme music. This in turn leads to other company's taking note of his talents  and in 2008 he writhes the theme song for Jacaranda 94.2 compellation album "Sit dit aan" with pop music legend Kreesan. In 2007 RSG includes Matthys' music on their play lists with other radio stations quick to follow. Radio Laeveld, Overvaal stereo , VCR , Jacaranda, Radio Rippel , Valley FM en Kudu FM (Namibia) and many others have Matthys today on their play lists.

In 2007 Matthys is invited to take part in the world song contest. He enters with one of his own compositions and reaches the semi final of this competition.

By the end of 2009 Several record labels also start taking interest in Matthys as song writer and the singer Wynand Strydom records the song "Boer soek `n vrou" which Matthys wrote for the Kyknet TV series.

Matthys starts his acting career by playing the lead role in a stage play  "Uit die skadu"by the end of 2008. A lot of auditions follow and in November 2009 Matthys plays the lead role in a TV add for the sweetener product "Swheet". 

Matthys lives in Gauteng, South Africa.
