Good preparation is key. Do not assume you will be close to as fluent in Afrikaans as in your native language.

How to prepare.

  • Break things down to short sentences and do not get fancy.
  • Stick with basics.
  • If it is difficult to make full sentences, then do phrases only, or even words to get the idea across.

Fancy Example:

"We had a rather exhausting trip up the Zambezi river and decided to regroup a little by taking a siesta under the shade of the Withaak trees."

Starter Design:
"We were in a boat on the river. It was the Zambezi river. We were tired. We stopped. We slept under the trees. It was good."
